Tuesday NHL One-Liners

NBCSN has to be kicking themselves, another week of prime games on Tuesday, another week of showcasing the front runners for Connor McDavid, the Buffalo Sabres. Thanks to this scheduling only local fans, unless you have Center Ice, will be the only ones able to see the Canadiens-Penguins contest tonight. Here’s a few tidbits to keep in mind, heading into tonight’s full schedule.

  • As of right now the game between the Sabres and Sharks in Buffalo is still going on as scheduled. Though some Buffalo suburbs picked up 40+ inches of snow, the downtown area is still open.

  • Martin St. Louis has now scored against every NHL team, though it wasn’t enough to beat his former Lightning team, losing 5-1.

  • Brad Marchand and Pavel Datsyuk won’t play tonight against the Blues and Blue Jackets respectively.

  • Avalanche goalie, Semyon Varlamov, will be day-to-day after suffering a groin injury. Varlamov has played in 10 of the Avalanche’s past 13 contests. He owns a 4-5-4 record with a .918 save percentage and a 2.95 goals-against average in that span.

– Chicago Blackhawks rookie defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk is expected to miss two to three months with a lower-body injury, according to a source.

– Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta will play Tuesday night against Montreal, two weeks after undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his thyroid. The cancer scare has been taken care of, and it’s great to have Maatta back after something so serious.
