After an upset focused day Monday, the league gets back to a full schedule tonight. Both the New York Rangers and Edmonton Oilers played the role of spoilers last night.
Here’s a few tidbits to keep in mind for Tuesday nights games.
- The Rangers lit the lamp 5 times in the third period monday to secure their 5-4 victory, over the Wild at The Garden. “We kind of came in after the second period and we were like, ‘It’s been so bad, so why not just go out swinging and try to create something,’ ” Rangers defenseman Marc Staal said. “We got that one, got the crowd going a bit, started tightening it up, and we started rolling.”
-
Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was put on the injured reserve Tuesday after suffering a fractured finger in practice Monday. Bobrovsky should be out for at least a week. In the mean time, the Jackets have called up Anton Forsberg from the clubs AHL affiliate in Springfield, Massachusetts.

A Slava Voynov update. Marta Varlamova’s, Slava’s wife, attorney has come out saying she did not want charges pressed against her husband, the night of their domestic incident. “She just wants to keep her family together and keep their privacy somewhat respected to the extent that she could,” Varlamova’s attorney, Michael J. Walsh. Hopefully Slava is back sooner rather than later.
-
San Jose Sharks defenseman, John Scott, will be suspended for two games. Scott was involved in a third period fight, and came off the bench to get involved. He will miss games at Colorado and Minnesota this week.
-
The Edmonton Oilers have found their stride. They shut out the Habs last night 3-0 and now own a four game winning streak.
-
Nashville Predators place Rich Clune on waivers, while also assigning Viktor Stalberg to Milwaukee on a conditioning assignment.
– Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta will have thyroid surgery next week to remove a potentially cancerous tumor. Maatta will be forced to miss 7-10 days after the surgery, but baring any setbacks should be good to go after that time.
