The end of summer may be near but the Little League World Series is just heating up in Williamsport, PA. The annual tournament to determine the best Little League team in the world began on Thursday, and some of the teams and players are making some noise.
The Girls of Little League:
If you been watching the tournament you may have noticed there are two girls playing in the tournament and their playing just as good, if not better then the boys. Mo’ne Davis who plays for the Pennsylvania team, dominated on Friday vs. Tennessee, pitching 6 innings, allowing 2 hits, 0 errors, and 8 strike outs in the 4 – 0 shut out victory. Her impressive pitching grab the attention of many, including Detroit Tigers pitcher David Price, Magic Johnson, Mike Trout, and many more. Mo’ne Davis became the first ever girl to pitch a no hitter in Little League history.
Canada’s Emma March who also plays pitcher and first base, didn’t have the same stellar start. Emma may not be getting the same attention as Davis, but this is a very fun time for the sport. This is the first time in history that two girls are playing in the same year at the Little League World Series.
Japan Looking to Defend the Title:
Last year’s championship team, Japan is coming into this year looking to defend the title. Japan who’s the 2nd most winning country in the Little League World Series history. The astounding thing about Japan is that the team has made it to the championship round the past 4 years with different teams. That not only shows how competitive the team is, it shows how competitive the tournament to represent Japan is. Japan is such a powerhouse that no one would be surprised if they end up winning the title again.
