The Calm Before The Storm

This week, the top seven remained the same in the college football playoff picture.

Ole Miss (#8 last week) plummeted after their blowout loss last Saturday. UCLA and Georgia moved up one spot each and Michigan State moved up into the Top 10 with Ole Miss falling.

Last week, there were no big games and there were no upsets, so the unchanged standings were not a huge surprise. However, once again, Florida State is causing individuals to scratch their heads and wonder if their footing is shifting and loosening even more. Is there a chance that they will drop out of the top four even if they win against Florida and capture the ACC title.

Here is a look at the current top 10. We may want to take a long look at them because there is the possibility of a big shake up coming next week. This week could be the calm before the storm. The storm could roll in big time on Saturday with numerous big games and upsets galore. Thus, here is the ranking from last week and this week:

Week 4                                            Week 5

(1) Alabama                                    (1) Alabama

(2) Oregon                                       (2) Oregon

(3) Florida State                           (3) Florida State

(4) Mississippi State                  (4) Mississippi State

(5) TCU                                            (5) TCU

(6) Ohio State                               (6) Ohio State

(7) Baylor                                      (7) Baylor

(8)Ole Miss                                    (8) UCLA

(9) UCLA                                        (9) Georgia

(10) Georgia                                 (10) Michigan State

Eight Big Games To Watch

Here are eight games to keep your eye on this holiday weekend. Some of these games may not produce the upset; however, they are all rivalry games and when they get on the field, you can throw the records out the window.

Thursday Night (7:30 ET): TCU vs Texas

Friday Afternoon (3:30 ET): Arizona State vs. Arizona

Saturday (12:00 pm ET) Georgia Tech vs. Georgia

Saturday (12:00 pm ET) Michigan vs. Ohio State

Saturday (3:30 pm ET) Minnesota vs. Wisconsin

Saturday (3:30 pm ET) Florida vs. Florida State

Saturday (7:45 pm ET) Auburn vs. Alabama

Saturday (8:00 pm ET) Oregon vs. Oregon State

When Saturday night rolls around, there could be a few L’s by the top ten names and the selection committee will be faced with tough challenges coming next Tuesday.

The big question looming is the following: Can Florida State actually drop out of the top 4 and be eliminated from the playoff hunt even with a perfect record? If Alabama and Oregon continue to win and if Ohio State and TCU win the conferences big; the ACC (Florida State) may be the conference that is not represented. Then again, Mississippi State and SEC (two teams) are still a realistic possibility.

Are you ready for the storm?
