After 17 seasons and 696 games, the 34 year old Steven Gerrard decided to put his career at Liverpool to an end. The club that has watched him grow and has given him 10 tittles, including the Champions League in 2005, will no longer count with his services after the end of this season. Gerrard has agreed to make a change in his career and follow his former national teammates footsteps, David Beckham, by joining the Los Angeles Galaxy. This will now be the second English superstar that will play for the Galaxy.
Steven Gerrard has agreed to an 18 month contract with the Galaxy where he will receive around $6 million dollars per year, which is half of what he makes today at Liverpool. He will also have a chance to increase his earning by his image rights and sponsorships. Steven Gerrard sat down with LAGalaxy.com and gave his reasons to why he chose the club.

“I’m very excited to begin the next chapter of my career in the United States with LA Galaxy,” said Gerrard. “The Galaxy are the most successful club in Major League Soccer history and I am looking forward to competing for more championships in the years to come.
“My discussions with Bruce Arena and Chris Klein were extremely positive and the future of the team is very bright. I am committed to helping the LA Galaxy compete for trophies and to having an impact in Los Angeles and I will give my all for the club.
“In the meantime, I will continue to give everything for Liverpool for the remainder of this season before joining up with the Galaxy.”
Steven Gerrard, another superstar that will join the MLS to help spread and grow the sport of football here in the United States. The L.A. Galaxy will open their 2015/16 season at home against the Chicago Fire on Friday, March 6th, but they will not count on him being on the squad until July.
