According to league sources, Golden State Warriors’ guard Stephen Curry has been voted as the NBA’s Most Valuable Player for the 2014-15 season. The formal announcement is set to be made as early as Monday.
Curry led the Warriors to a 67-15 record, the highest in the league. He averaged 23.8 points/game, 48.7% from the field (44.3% from beyond the arch), 7.7 assists/page, and 2 steals/game. It also makes him the second point guard to lead a team to 65+ wins and win the MVP award. The first being Magic Johnson in 1986-87 season. Johnson went on to win the NBA Finals with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Both Curry and Houston Rockets’ James Harden were regarded as the front-runners for the award. Last year’s MVP, Kevin Durant, played 27 games this season due to injury. LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, and Anthony Davis were also possible contenders for the award.
Once the announcement is made, Curry will become to second player in Warriors history to win the title (Wilt Chamberlain-1959-60).
