Week 27 of La Liga ended this Sunday afternoon with Real Madrid defeating Levante but we will get to that match soon. Before that match, Sevilla had an easy match as they defeated Elche 3-0. Sevilla has been improving more and more every week although they have dropped some important points, but to be in the place that they are this season, not even the fans expected them to be sitting in fifth place.
Carlos Bacca, along with Kevin Gameiro and loanee Iago Aspas, have helped the team get to where they are today. Sevilla has definitely stepped up from their past roots and shown the other competitive teams like Barcelona or Real Madrid that they are still here to battle for La Liga title. Vitolo, Ever Banega and defender Nicolas Pareja have also helped the team get the points they need.
The first goal came in the first 18 minutes of the game when Sevilla was awarded a penalty when Elche striker, Coro, brought down Jose Reyes inside the box. Reyes looked at the ref the minute he was brought down, claiming that he should call the penalty and right he was. Carlos Bacca stepped up to take the penalty and got it past goalkeeper Przemysław Tytoń, who tipped the ball with his glove but was not enough to save his team from being down 1-0.
Carlos Bacca striked again in the 31st minute when he was given a cross by teammate Coke inside the box. Ever Banega crossed the ball to Coke just inside the box and Coke was able to cross it to the middle of the box. Both Vicente Iborra and Bacca were there but Bacca was able to get to it first and head it from close range.
Frenchman Kevin Gameiro struck in the second half of the match. With nine minutes left, Gameiro passed it to Banega with the inside of his shoe. As Gameiro went for the run to goal, Banega took the time to find an open spot and pass it back to his teammate. Gameiro then went one on one against Tytoń and was able to kiss it in and make it a 3-0 game.
The game ended with Sevilla securing the three points and sitting in fifth place with 52 points, four points behind Atlético Madrid and five behind third place Valencia. The man of the match goes out to Carlos Bacca who was able to get his team on top and score two goals for Sevilla. Sevilla will face Villarreal on Sunday while Elche faces Valencia on Friday.
