The Red Sox have defeated the Dodgers in nine innings. Boston has taken a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.
Back At It Again
Rich Hill and Eduardo Rodriguez faced off at the pitcher’s mound for game four of the World Series.
Both starter had a solid start to their game. Hill walked Steve Pearce in the top of the opening inning but had little trouble to end the frame. Rodriguez bottom half was almost identical as he walked Justin Turner and had no trouble getting the final man out to end the inning.
The second inning was a Deja Vu for Los Angeles’ starter. ´This time Brock Holt worked out a walk off him before getting the final out of the top frame. Chris Taylor hit a single in the top of second for the first hit of the ballgame. That was followed with a strikeout to Austin Barnes to end the second. Rich hit his opposite number to begin the third inning. He found little opposition from Boston to end the top frame of the third. Meanwhile, Rodriguez retired he bottom of the third in order. No score by the end of the first three.
Dodgers Blow Game Open
Hill was cruising through the game in the middle innings. He again retired Boston in order in the top of the fourth. Turner singled to open up the bottom of the inning but Rodriguez struck out two and got a pop up to end the inning. The sixth would be a completely different story after an uneventful fifth inning.
The Dodger starter again threw an immaculate inning retiring the Red Sox in order. He allowed a single hit trough six innings at work. On the other hand, Rodriguez had plenty of troubles in the bottom half. The Venezuelan lefty hit David Freese to begin the inning. Turner then doubled off him to put Freese on third. Manny Machado was then walked intentionally to load up the bases for the Dodgers. Dodgers´third baseman opened up the score after an error by catcher Christian Vazquez.Troubles continued as Yasiel Puig hit long home run to put the Dodgers up 4-0.
Matt Barnes replaced Rodriguez on the mound and got the final out of the inning.
Red Sox Tie The Score Late
Hill gave up a walk to Xander Bogaerts to open up the bottom of the seventh. He was replaced by Scott Alexander on the mound after striking out Eduardo Nunez. Alexander started hs night at work off the wrong foot as he gave up a walk to Holt. Dave Roberts had little patience to Alexander as he immediately pulled him from the game. Ryan Madson came in from the bullpen to try to sort things out. Unfortunately for the Dodgers, that did not happen as pinch hitter Mitch Moreland hit a three run homer to shrink the lead. The Dodgers were now up by one. The score was 4-3.
Kenley Jansen came into the game in the top of the eight trying to keep the Red Sox in check. Steve Pearce hot a solo home run off a location mistake by Jansen to tie the score at four a piece. 4-4 through seven and a half innings. Joe Kelly left runners stranded in the corners to end the eighth.
Boston Takes The Lead
Dylan Floro came in from the bullpen to start the ninth for the Dodgers. He gave up a double to Holt after a pop up by Eduardo Nunez. Rafael Devers came big from the bench as he hit an RBI single up the middle to put the Red Sox on top late in the game. Floro then walked Mookie Betts with two outs. He was replaced by Alex Wood on the mound after the walk. Wood did not have much luck either as he gave up a single to Andrew Benintendi right away to load up the bases. Kenta Maeda then came into the game trying to avoid disaster. Maeda gave up a double to Pearce to unload the bases. The score was now 9-4 and the Dodgers were running out of outs.
Craig Kimbrel came in from the bullpen hoping to put the Red Sox a game away from the championship. Kimbrel had a shaky start on the mound. He gave up a walk to Brian Dozier and a homer run to Enrique Hernandez. The Dodgers came in close as the score was 9-6. Kimbrel left Turner stranded at second the end the game. The Boston Red Sox are a win away from the championship.
Final Score: Red Sox 9- Dodgers 6
