Race For The Last Seed in The West

With two games left, the Memphis Grizzlies and the Phoenix Suns will meet in the Arizona desert in what will be a playoff like atmosphere at U.S. Airways Arena. At this point, Memphis controls it’s own destiny as their “magic number” is down to one, meaning that they can lose today, but will be in a must win situation on Wednesday when they play the Dallas Mavericks at home. Phoenix, on the other hand, will have to win tonight and then travel to Sacramento in a must win situation.

The Grizzlies will have the upper hand going into this match-up with three straight wins while the Suns have lost 2 straight. To give the Suns credit, nobody expected them to be this good in the first place. The Suns have not made it into the postseason since the 2009-2010 season, the same team that boasted players like Amar’e Stoudemire and Steve Nash. The Grizzlies are attempting to make it back to the playoffs, one year after making a very hot run into the Western Conference Finals. Once they were there, they ended up getting kicked around and ultimately swept by the San Antonio Spurs.

Being at home, the Suns should be able to feed off of the crowd and possibly put themselves in a very favorable position in a race against a team they’re 0-3 against. With a hard fought win, they could take charge and defeat a weak Kings team. That would leave Memphis with the Mavericks as a huge obstacle. The Grizzlies are 0-3 against the Mavs, losing by an average of 13.3 points per game.

With that being said, the Grizzlies can wrap it up tonight. If they don’t, don’t be shocked to see them lose not just tonight, but on Wednesday as well while the Phoenix Suns clinch the final spot with 2 key wins.
