The Brazilian, Edson Arantes (from birth otherwise knows as “Pele”) has recognized that in this World Cup, Brazil should not face off against Spain. “Spain is a beautiful team to watch play and that poses no weak point” said Pele in an interview. He also stated that the good thing about Spain is that they play clean and they let their opponents play as well. Spain is a team that plays a modern soccer. They have similar characteristics to the Orange Machine (Holland) back in the 70’s.
In the same interview for GQ magazine, Pele is worried about the game style Brazil is playing and how it would be lower than Spain’s if they do face off. Although Pele seems a bit disappointed because Diego Costa and Thiago Alcantara (Brazilian by birth) decided to play for Spain and that Brazil game style wouldn’t change if Diego Costa was in the Brazilian team, but with Thiago Alcantara Brazil could have a stronger attack.
This year, Brazil has a good defense and a good midfield but a weak offensive. Can Pele be right? Is Spain a headache for Brazil? The answer is yes. Like I said before, Spain has a solid team that can easily score with no problem and we saw that in the 2010 World Cup. If Brazil and Spain do face off, I hope it’s in the final. That could possibly be a great game to watch. Brazil being the host and Spain being a guest and defending champions, these two will go at it. But, the pressure is more for Brazil than for Spain. Knowing that Brazil is the host of this year’s World Cup, the country would love for their team to go all the way.
