The Baltimore Orioles are not having a good season, to say the least. The Orioles find themselves last in the AL East division, 15 1/2 games off the Tampa Bay Rays. They are also at the bottom of our AL Power Rankings.
Despite their awful record (15-33), they are as entertaining as it gets, from historical slumps to comical defense. Take a look at baseball’s biggest stooges.
The Slump
Baltimore wasted no time to entertain the neutral baseball fans. First baseman Chris Davis made history to start the season going 0 for 54 at the plate. Orioles’ fans did not find this amusing at all. However, everyone else tuned in or at least checked the box scores constantly to follow Davis’ cold streak.
Orioles Stop Punches With Their Face
If the O’s were a boxer they would have lost via doctor stoppage in the second round. Baltimore has the worst run differential in the league (-105). It is easy to see why once you take a look at their pitching staff. All of them except John Means have an ERA above 4.00. Furthermore, Means is also the only one with a winning record, barely.
MLB might have to implement the mercy rule exclusively for them if their pitchers keep giving up runs at the pace they do.
The Orioles Have An Awful Infield
The battered birds messed up a double play a week ago in comical fashion. Their effort can only be described as one of the most hilarious plays in modern baseball. If you have not taken a look at it yet, here it is in all its shameful glory.
While this play represents the epitome of Oriole baseball, this is not the first and it will not be the last time their defense is on the wrong side of the highlights. Things don’t seem to be improving anytime soon when it comes to defense. Baltimore committed 104 errors last year, they seem to be ready to break that mark in 2019 as the error count sits at 35 at this point in the season.
Laugh It Off
The 2019 Baltimore Orioles are a very special team. It is for all the wrong reasons, but they are special nonetheless. They might be bad at playing the game, but they sure are fun to watch for that very same reason. Next time you want to laugh hard enough to scare your neighbors tune in to Orioles baseball.
