NFL Draft Prospect Breakdown: Greedy Williams

Strengths:

Williams is dangerous around the football with his speed and man coverage skills and very reliable hands. He is a ballhawk who has a nose for the football. Williams has great length and height to be very effective in press and man coverages. He has good footwork and possesses the burst to close on the football on comeback routes.

Williams showed off his vertical speed at the Combine with 4.37 seconds in the forty. This speed along with his length is the reason he won’t get beat deep often. Along with his speed, he has quick feet and high athleticism, allowing good recovery in the case of a stumble or separation at the line.

Weaknesses:

Williams lacks the instincts to be a productive zone coverage corner. Those instincts along with poor awareness also limits him from playing with the speed he recorded at the Combine. Williams has a small and lean frame which won’t help him against the run, tackling, or covering bigger and more physical receivers. His upper body will throw him off at times with being unbalanced. Williams takes some unnecessary risks when he doesn’t have any help over the top.

Draft Projection:

First Round pick

Williams projects as having the potential to be a great press or man corner, while fitting in poorly in a zone scheme. His lousy performance in the drills at the Combine is a direct result from his lack of instincts and awareness. I like him more than most because of his upside and I believe a corner-needy team will snatch him in the middle of the first round. He is the type of player that has amazing days and head-scratching days. In a couple of years, he will look like a steal based off his amazing days.
