The San Francisco 49ers are one of the most talented football teams in the entire league and have a lot of depth in their roster. The 49ers offense was explosive when it came to the run game, but in overall yards and pass yards were below average. The defense was again a dominating force and could use this draft to keep that tradition going for the future. They ended second in their division and lost in the playoffs, but will be looking to win their division next year. They had few to no losses in free agency so they mostly have the roster they had last year which is rare to see in a team as good as 49ers. This year they have 11 picks which already seems unnecessary and six of those picks are in the top 100 picks in the draft. The 49ers have options in this draft and I think will not worry about their needs, which means they will not stretch for players, they will get the best players off the board and have all those earlier picks, that is a lot of talent in an already talented team. The 49ers will look to improve on offense and will try to become the number one defense in the league even better than the legion of boom.
Needs: WR, OL, DL, ILB, CB
Wide Receiver: The 49ers have two great starters in Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin, but behind them they dont have much. They can use someone who is wicked fast and will be a deep threat to add to their arsenal of offensive weapons. This draft there is so much talent in the receiver position that they have to take someone to help out their pass offense which was 30th in the league. If they do get a receiver they may want to look at someone who has the ability to be a good returner since LeMicheal James is on his way out of the door. With their main receivers being bigger guys they may want to get someone who reflects the same capabilities as Tavon Austin, someone small and just lighting bolt fast.
Offensive Lineman: I was looking at their roster and I noticed that the 49ers do not have a true center in their roster and that they use guys who play guards as centers. While I do think they have a great offensive line they may want to consider someone in this draft that can be the general of their offensive line and sort of help this line take the next step to greatness in the league.
Defensive Lineman: I would even specify this more to defensive end. The team has enough wiggle room to look at players purely for depth and future potential. Justin Smith is a key ingredient to making this defense work and they may want to look at someone who can potentially be his replacement since he is getting up there in age.
Inside Linebacker: The 49ers are fortunate enough to have two of the greatest linebackers in the league. Having one outstanding player is a luxury but having two is incredibly lucky. NaVorro Bowman suffered a brutal injury and the 49ers might want to look at grabbing someone to increase the depth at the position. Plus right now putting a young buck in the mix will help that player learn from two incredible inside linebackers.
Cornerback: This has to be the biggest need for the 49ers and they will address it as early as possible. I can even see a situation that they trade up to grab someone they see has the talent to play in this league now. Where they positions is now they don’t have anyone who stands out as a players which is weird and normally doesn’t happen with a big time position. We normally see top defense with a big time corner that shuts down opposing number one receivers. My predictions is they will get someone in the first round and add a piece to a defense that will look impossible to attack.
