NFL 32/32 Draft Needs: 24/32 Philadelphia Eagles

0

The Philadelphia Eagles made big leaps and bounds last season with head coach Chip Kelly. They were one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL as they also returned to the playoffs. The Eagles have struggled to find a franchise quarterback since Donovan McNabb. They tried out Michael Vick but he was injured too many times and  then came the savior, Nick Foles, who had a phenomenal season. The  defense is where this team will need to step up and where the team will look at players. Even though the offense may need to pick someone to help fill the missing void of DeSean Jackson, the rest of their offense will be returning and have even more help this year, especially in the running back position. The Eagles have six picks in the draft and will most likely use eighty percent on defense and twenty percent on offense but will have to make a strategic choice to make every selection count.

Dreaft Needs: WR, CB, S, OLB

Wide Receiver: 1,300 yards and nine touchdowns. That’s the player they lost in DeSean Jackson. They also lost Jason Avant, even though it isn’t the biggest impact, it’s a chunk of their receiving corps. A first round pick is out of the question because at pick twenty-two, they might be stretching for someone. Instead, they can pick someone with the second or third round pick that either falls or is a justifiable pick at that spot. I do not think it’s out of the question they will draft a WR but it’s uncertain if they draft someone who has the same receiving style as Jackson or take a new approach and revamp their receiving core as a whole.

Cornerback: Even though on paper the position looks good, being the 32nd pass defense will always cause a team to look for someone to help out. The renovation of this position will be essential for the team to move past being the worst in the league. Since the team doesn’t have a lot of wiggle room in the draft, they might address the position how they feel is necessary. The first two picks would be a bold statement but after that, the team will just be trying to rile up their starters and spark competition.

Safety: They lost two safeties in free agency and even with the arrival of Malcolm Jenkins, this position could use not only depth but an upgrade. A Brian Dawkins type player is what the team is missing. Someone to make a big impact in the secondary and provided leadership among the others. If one of the top safeties is  still around, the team will move faster to the podium than the Eagles offense.

Outside Linebacker: This position has two good starters but one is over the age of thirty and behind them their isn’t any competition really sparking. They will look in the later rounds for someone who can provided depth or even a player that’s looked as a squad rotation player, just to help the position out.
