The Washington Redskins finished last in the NFC East and are looking to go from worst to first. This division is always in flux so the Redskins might have an opportunity to do so. During the off season, they were incredibly active in singing players to plug the holes they needed in the team, mainly because they only have six draft picks this year and their first pick isn’t until the beginning of the second round. The Redskins have key ingredients to have an explosive offense and have made some free agent signings to improve their defense. So, with such a small amount of picks, this draft might be more about depth than getting key players to start automatically. It isnt looking like the Redskins will make a big splash in free agency but they are going to try and complete a team that will help them be a consistent team in the playoffs since they have only been in the playoffs once since 2007.
Needs: OL, DL, CB
Offensive Lineman: The Redskins need to protect their prime player Robert Griffin III and giving up 43 sacks will not do that for them. The center position seems to be one that could be upgraded. Right now they have two players that haven’t really had a lot of experience and aren’t dominating in the position. They will use their earliest pick to try and pick up a center who will be the master mind of this line and mesh well with RGIII. They may also want to draft someone to try and compete for the right tackle spot. Competition always brings out the best in players and adding a tackle in the mid-round that has potential to become a starter might be a good strategic move for the Redskins.
Defensive Lineman: The Redskins did go out and get Jason Hatcher, which upgraded their defensive end position but don’t seem to have a solidified story on the other side of him. They do have good depth but not someone who will really lead the pack. They might draft a young buck to throw into the mix and try to mold a starter. They will most likely be looking more towards the mid-rounds but if they see someone slide that they feel has that potential they will be extremely happy to snatch him up.
Cornerback: The Redskins just resigned DeAngelo Hall and added Tracy Porter into the mix but could use some added depth at the position. Hall isnt getting any younger and with the league being more pass heavy, having a core group of corners helps solidify the defense. The Redskins could potentially have another second round pick with the speculation of Kirk Cousins being traded and could use that pick to get a corner who will not only add depth but be the future of the secondary
