Yesterday, Barcelona took an impressive 6-0 win against Rayo Vallecano. The first goal was made in the second minute of the game by Adriano, leading the way for five more goals to come. Lionel Messi, Alexis Sanchez, Pedro and Neymar all scored. By scoring two goals against Rayo Vallecano, Lionel Messi is now tied for third place at 228 goals with former Real Madrid striker, Raul Gonzalez, in career goals made in La Liga. Messi will surely pass Hugo Sanchez’ record of 234 goals very soon.
Such a great victory or the fact that Messi is tied with Raul should have been the highlight or the most focused point about the game. Sadly, people on social media decided to make it the celebration that Neymar preformed after scoring. After Neymar scored his first goal after returning from an injury earlier this year, he celebrated his goal by giving a little dance, as it is custom to do by many Brazilian players. Dani Alves also joined Neymar in his celebration.
Many people went to the social media to criticize the two Brazilians for dancing, saying it was disrespectful and there was no need to dance. Many also compared it to another dance done by Thiago Alcantara and Dani Alves two years ago, where Carles Puyol went to stop them. Many believe that those two dance were a sign of disrespect to the rival and their fans.
The question here is, was the dance at any moment a sign of disrespect and if it was, how was it? It was just a celebration that came out of the blue. Why are people so angry for a simple dance that showed no vulgarity or desire to provoke the rival team. Should celebrations be banned because of the possible chance of disrespecting someone or should we as fans not look too much into it and enjoy soccer for what it is? A passionate sport that invokes many emotions and celebrations.
