Mark Sanchez Has Landed

The 27-year old quarterback has been signed to the Philadelphia Eagles. Mark Sanchez was a free agent for less than a week and finally found a home.

But is this a right fit for Sanchez?

Well, for the Eagles, it is a smart decision. They get some veteran help at quarterback and have a back-up. Essentially, that is what Sanchez will be, a backup. He will not really get looked at as a starter after the amazing season Nick Foles had. The organization is happy to have a proven veteran that can start if need be.

This offense will teach Sanchez a thing or two about offense. He will be able to be mentored by the great Chip Kelly and will be exposed to what is looking like one of the most dynamic offenses in the entire league. The Eagles have one of the strongest receiving corps in the league, and with Desean Jackson saying he is staying, he would be able to work with one of the fastest wide outs in the NFL. Not to mention the group of running backs with Lesean McCoy and Darren Sproles.

Sanchez’s exposure to this fast-paced team and the unique offense might benefit him for the future. He also put himself in a new conference which will help further his exposure to see of how the NFC works.

On the other hand, I think Sanchez just cut himself short and took away his possibilities to start in the NFL this year. With other teams, he would have had to work for a starting position but it wasn’t out of the question. With the Eagles, he has put himself behind someone who not only proved to be a great starter, but has potential to be an outstanding quarterback (Nick Foles).  If he would have been patient, I think he would have been given a chance to compete and earn a starting job, but now he has placed himself where the only reps he will be taking are mental reps
