As they get closer to securing a spot in the UEFA Champions League, Manchester United and manager Louis Van Gaal are already making moves to strengthen the Red Devils next season.

On Thursday, the Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven announced an agreement with Manchester United to sell speedy winger Memphis Depay to the Red Devils. The deal is expected to be in the range of $38 million to $42 million, making the transfer the richest transfer for a Dutch player from the Eredivisie to another league. Depay will undergo a medical in Manchester next week.

Depay, who is 21, shined at the World Cup for the Netherlands and scored in victories against Australia and Chile for the Oranje with Van Gaal as his manager. Depay’s blend of pace, power and purpose will add a stable option for Manchester United, who continue to show the Premier League that they can open up their checkbooks as well.

Manchester United was believed to see competition with Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain for the winger’s services. Depay, who netted 27 times in 38 games for PSV, will add competition to the flanks at Old Trafford in Van Gaals’s preferred 4-1-4-1 formation.

With Adnan Januzaj and Angel Di Maria having seasons that would like to be forgotten, Ashley Young and Juan Mata have had to play wide roles for the Red Devils lately. The Red Devils also posses options for wingers in Antonio Valencia, who has had play right back this season, Nani, who is on loan, and James Wilson. The addition of Depay will raise doubt on Januzaj’s future with Manchester United.

Depay is one of the exciting prospects in Europe and after he completes his medical next week, he will officially become a Red Devil as the Dutch revolution at Old Trafford continues.
