Seattle Mariners’ fans should be applauding the front office of the ball club and also grinning ear to ear knowing they will have one of the best third basemen for the majority of his prime years.

Kyle Seager, 27, had a career year in 2014, hitting .268 with 25 homers and also driving in 96 RBIs. Thanks to his consistent play since becoming an everyday starter in 2012, to his All-Star year in 2014, it resulted in his well deserved contract extension. If you were to think about it, he came at a relatively low price compared to the many contracts exceeding well past $100, extending all the way to $300 million.

Since becoming a starter in 2012, Seager has become one of the most consistent third basemen in the league. He has hit 20+ home runs, driven in 70+ RBIs, while also hitting consistently in the .260 range each season. For a third baseman, you can not ask for anything more than that! His WAR has increased at a steady pace as well; 2012 2.8, 2013 3.7, 2014 5.8. Renowned for his defensive skills, Seager also added a Gold Glove in 2014.

Let’s take a moment and admire his smooth defense and that beautiful swing he displayed throughout his All-Star/career year.
