First Half
Guadalajara controlled the match from the early goings. They had an early scoring chance and they capitalized on it as an Angel Saldivar scored with a header off a cross by Alan Pulido. Chivas was clearly superior as they were faster moving down the field and created scoring chances playing wide. Kashima was overwhelmed by Chivas as their defense struggled keeping up with the Mexican team. Chivas was close to scoring their second goal of the match but had no success.
Chivas was up by one at the end of the half and Kashima Antlers was nowhere to be seen.
Second Half
Kashima had a great start to the second half as Ryoto Nagaki scored scored for the Japanese club on a counter attack. The Asian XI tied the score after just four minutes of play in the second half. Despite controlling the pace of play, Chivas shower less intensity as their offensive efforts were not very effective.
Things were about to get tougher for Chivas just before the 70th minute. Kashima was awarded a penalty as a player went down inside the box. It was a questionable call but it was penalty kick nonetheless as Serginho was ready to take the kick. The Brazilian striker converted without a problem to put his team up 2-1. Concentration issues and fatigue were evident for Chivas as they could not keep up with a team that was not all that skilled. The Asian squad added one more goal to their lead with a goal by Hiroki Abe at the 84th minute. Leo Silva then scored for Chivas on aggregate getting Guadalajara closer to a tie. Unfortunately for the Mexican squad, time was not enough as the match was over before they could level the scoreboard.
