Jevon Carter had a career night. Yes, he is only a freshman so he does not have many games under his belt but he played an almost flawless game as he led the Mountaineers to an easy win over Virginia Military. WVU won the game in a blowout fashion. The final score was 103-72.
Jevon was on fire from the get go. He finished the night with 28 points and he was 12-13 from the field including 3-3 from the three point line. He also had great assistance from his teammate Juwan Staten. Juwan finished the game with 17 points, 5, rebounds, and 6 assist.
VMI did not have a bad shooting night. They were 26 for 59 from the field. However, sloppy play and WVU’s pressure defense forced VMI to commit 34 turnovers. When you turn the ball over that any times in a game; there is a ZERO percent chance that you will win the game. QJ Peterson will hold the record for the most turnovers for his team tonight. He had 11 turnovers. His 13 points, 4 assist, and 5 rebounds could not cover up all those turnovers.
WVU Notes
They had a great shooting night from the field. They shot 42 for 83 from the floor.
They were very efficient from the 3 point line, shooting 47 % (8 for 17).
They need help on the free throw line. they only shot 50% (11 of 22).
They played team ball by recording 24 assists.
They had an unbelievable 25 steals.
Tarik Phillip who averaged 2.4 points a game finished with 12 points.
VMI Notes
They held a rebounding edge over WVU. They out rebounded the Mountaineers 41 to 24.
They can hit their free throws, they were 9 of 1o (90%). They just need to get to the line more often.
WVU is off to a 6-0 start and looking forward to adding to that with their next three games being against Charleston, LSU and Northern Kentucky.
