The Dodgers defeated the Red Sox on a wild World Series game.
Dodgers Go Ahead Early
Walker Buehler and Rick Porcello squared off on the pitcher’s’ mound in game three of the World Series.
Both Buehler and Porcello retired the side in order to begin the game. Nonetheless, the Dodgers’ starter had to put on some work to retire the Red Sox. The ballgame turned into a pitchers duel an inning later as both starters retired their opposition in order once again
The story was different in the top of the third. After a smooth start and two out, Porcello found some trouble on the mound. Joc Pederson hit a homer over the right field fence to put Los Angeles on the lead. Dodgers were up 1-0 after three.
Buehler Shuts Down Red Sox
The Kentucky native was getting hit hard on the mound to start the fourth inning. Despite a coupe of hard hit balls to the warning track he retired the side in order. Buehler retired five in a row by the end of the fourth. Porcello did the same for the top frame of the inning. The Red Sox starter left the game after a single and two outs in the bottom half of the fifth. Eduardo Rodriguez replaced him on the mound and got the final out.
Buehler remained on the mound for the top portion of the seventh. He retired the Red Sox in order once again despite getting closer to a hundred pitches. The Dodgers held on to their lead but could not generate much offense to widen the gap. Manny Machado hit a loud single off the left field wall. Despite trying, reliever Joe Kelly kept them in check.to keep the score intact. Dodgers were still up by one through six innings of play
Down To The Wire
The game headed into the late innings and Buehler was still untouchable on the mound. He retired the seventh in order striking out J.D. Martinez to end the frame. He threw 108 pitches throw seven innings of work. Ryan Brasier took over the mound as he replaced Joe Kelly in the bottom of the seventh. Brasier left a man on base to end the inning.
Kenley Jansen looked to be ready to end the game and give the Dodgers their first World Series win. That was of course, until Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a solo home run to tie the score at one. Matt Barnes left a Dodger stranded on base to end the eighth. Jansen retired the Red Sox in order in the ninth inning. David Price came into the game in the bottom of the ninth for Boston. He gave up a single and a couple of walks but hanged the zero at the end. The game was headed to extra innings.
Muncy Emerges As Hero
It took another five innings for the game to end. After a magnificent outing from the bullpen by Nathan Eovaldi, it was his 97th pitch that finally did it. Max Muncy hit a long ball over the left field wall. It took over seven hours but the game finally had a winner. The Dodgers survived the longest game in postseason history and brought themselves back to life in the series.
