The Los Angeles Dodgers have defeated the Milwaukee Brewers in the second game of the NLCS. Wade Miley took the mound for Milwaukee and Hyun-Jin Ryu did so for Los Angeles.
Pitchers Duel In Milwaukee
Fans at Miller Park were in for a pitching duel as both starters were dominant during the first three innings of play. Ryu allowed two hits and struck out two batters on his first three innings of work. Things were not very different for Miley. The Brewers’ starter allowed a single hit and struck out two batters as well. Offense was not very common during the first third of play.
Brewers Take The Lead
Miley retired the side in order in the fourth inning. Meanwhile, Ryu started struggling on the mound as the Brewers made him work in the fourth. Despite his struggles he hanged the zero leaving a man on base. Milwaukee’s offense woke up in the fifth. Orlando Arcia opened up the scoring with a solo home run to center field. That was followed with single by pitcher Miley and a double by Lorenzo Cain. Ryu’s was over after fourth and third innings of work.
Ryan Madson replaced Ryu on the mound. Madson gave Christian Yelich the intentional walk loading the bases. Ryan Braun came trough with the bases loaded with a sacrifice hit to bring home the Brewers’ second run home. Alex Wood replaced Madson on the mound for the sixth. He gave up a homer to Travis Shaw to widen Milwaukee’s lead. The Brewers were now up 3-0 as the game headed into the seventh.
Dodgers Comeback
The Dodgers once again mounted a late inning comeback. Max Muncy received a base on balls to open the top of seventh.The walk was followed with singles by Manny Machado and Cody Bellinger. The Dodgers were on the scoreboard 3-1. Joc Pederson singled off reliever Jeremy Jeffress to load up the bases. Austin Barnes then worked out a walk to bring home another run and shrink the lead to one run, 3-2. Defense paid up for the Brewers as they got out of the inning aided by a double play.
The Brewers were not so lucky an inning later as Jeffress gave a two run homer to Justin Turner to put the Dodgers up front 5-4. Corey Knebel replaced Jeffress coming from the bullpen. He got out of the eighth with no further damage. The Dodger lead came out intact of the bottom of the eighth inning as Caleb Ferguson and Kenta Maeda kept the Brewers in check.
Milwaukee went into the ninth inning looking for a single run to send the game to extra innings. Kenley Jansen got the final three outs for Los Angeles in the bottom of the ninth.. The Dodgers won the second game no the road tying the NLCS.
Final score: 5-4
Milwaukee and Los Angeles will meet once again for game three of the series this Monday. The game will start at 7:39 PM E.T on FS1.
