This has been a heartbreaking season for Javier Hernandez with former Manchester United Manager David Moyes keeping him on the bench for most of the season. Limited to only 817 minutes in all competitions and 23 matches in the Premier League, Hernandez has only netted 4 goals with 3 assists and 21 shots on target. The lack of playing time has greatly impacted his performance on an international level as his drop in form has led to Oribe Peralta to be the favorite of strikers for the Mexican National Team.
If you compare this season to the others when Hernandez was under Ferguson, it shows hat with more playing time, he is fully capable of netting just as many goals as Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney. Hernandez has great vision and anticipation in the box. His decision making is consistently impressive. He is also great in the air and boasts plenty of pace on the ground. In his debut season in 2010, Chicharito played a total of 1488 minutes, netting 13 goals with 1 assist. Many fans believed that David Moyes was wasting Chicharito’s talent by keeping him on the bench. Interim Manager Ryan Giggs has already given him his third 90 minute match this season.
With rumors circulating that the Red Devils are targeting Cavani, it would seem that amount of strikers at United’s disposal could limit his playing time and we could be seeing him leave Old Trafford. Atletico Madrid and Arsenal are possible destinations for the Mexican striker. Arsenal are in need of another striker to help out Giroud up top. Rumors say that Diego Costa will leave Atletico Madrid in the summer, which leaves an open spot for Hernandez to snatch up the starting spot. Hernandez needs to leave to one of these teams, where he will receive a lot more playing time, which will improve his form on a club level and on an international level. In May 2011, Pele said this about Javier Hernandez, “There is no doubt that Hernandez is a promising player. He is excellent, I have seen some games of his on television and he is a fantastic footballer.” Chicharito will have to make a decision on whether he will stay or leave United for the sake of his career.
