Mack Brown is scheduled to step down at the end of the week following a disappointing season. The original plan what that he was going to step down after the bowl game, but he decided to step down at the end of this week. Texas Longhorns started the season 1-2 then fired defensive coordinator Manny Diaz. After that move, they went on a six game winning streak, putting them at 7-2.
The Longhorns eventually finished the season 8-4 and 4th in the BIG 12, which they could had finished first if they beat in state rivals Baylor last Saturday, but lost 30-10 and missed a BCS game. Texas is going to play No.10 Oregon in the Alamo Bowl December 30th. Mack Brown has spent the last 16 seasons with Texas going 158-47(.771) and winning 5 BCS Bowl games during that span. The most known bowl game was against USC in the 2005 Rose Bowl. The possible replacements for Mack Brown are Nick Saban, Ed Orgeron, James Franklin, Pat Fitzgerald, Mike Gundy or Larry Fedora.
