Real Sociedad’s striker, Carlos Vela, had a day to remember yesterday, November 23, as he made the record books by becoming the first Mexican player in Europe to score four goals in one game and lead his team to victory over Celta Vigo by a final score of 4-3. Vela opened the scoring quickly in the 6th minute, then Celta Vigo went on to score three times unanswered to put the score 1-3, finally Vela became a hero when he managed to score in the 61th, 78th, and 81st minute completing an amazing comeback and giving Real Sociedad the win.

This feat by Vela turns out to be even more impressive because not even the lead Mexican scorer of all time, Hugo Sanchez who won five Pichichi trophies for being the top goal scorer of a season, experienced what it was like to score four goals in a soccer match in Europe.

The main question surrounding Carlos Vela now is whether  he will play in the upcoming World Cup in Brazil. Vela has continued to turn down offers from the Mexican national team stating that the Mexico team doesn’t need him or that he is going through a good moment with Real Sociedad and doesn’t want to miss playing time with his club. The Mexican striker has not played for Mexico’s national team since the year 2011, however he did feature in the last World Cup in 2010 in South Africa.

With a Mexican team that just punched their ticket to the World Cup, they could put together a good offensive threat with the likes of Carlos Vela, Oribe Peralta, and Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez giving the Mexican faithful a reason to dream with a successful World Cup appearance.

There is no doubt that Vela has the talent to be in Mexico’s national team, but it remains to be seen if this time around he accepts an invitation to the team.
