For the 10th time this season, the PGA Tour has another first-time winner, coming at one of the premiere stops of the year at the Quicken Loans National.
Filled with yet another stellar cast of players that included Tiger Woods, Bill Haas, and defending-champion Justin Rose, Troy Merritt shot a final round of 67 for his first career win on the PGA Tour in his 96th professional start. The 30-year-old won by three shots over Players Champion Rickie Fowler recording two birdies on the final three holes.

The Osage, Iowa native set a new tournament record on Saturday scoring a 10-under round of 61 that included 11 birdies and one bogey. Merritt, with his win, now qualifies for the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits and the 2015 FedExCup Playoffs.
The Quicken Loans National, of course, benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation. Well, the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club certainly benefitted Tiger’s game over the weekend as he recorded his best finish in arguably a few years. The 39-year-old finished tied-for-18th at eight-under after shooting a Sunday round of 68.

The Quicken Loans National is one of five tournaments on the PGA Tour with invitational status; only 120 players participated in the event.
The golfing world will now set its eyes on Akron, Ohio for the 2015 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at the Firestone Country Club.
