Netherlands defeated Mexico in the round of 16 upon that controversy penalty in the last-minute gave Netherlands the victory. A lot of Mexico fans gather up in social media Facebook, Twitter, Instagram Etc blaming the referee for Mexico’s elimination. There’s a phrase in Spanish that Mexico’s fan have become all too accustomed to in summing El Tri’s recent world cup exit
“Play like never before and lose like always”
In the last three World Cups Mexico has participated in they put in quality performance against top opponents, and yet they end up losing in the round of 16. The round of 16 has proven to be El Tri’s graveyard at every edition of the tournament since 1994. Mexico left with a bitter taste in this years World Cup with Netherlands stricker Arjen Robben winning a debatable Penalty in second-half injury time. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar stepped up to seal the victory, when Mexico was superior during the whole game. Some people call it a bad call against Miguel Herrera for taking out Giovanni Dos Santos early in the game and replacing him with Javier Aquino. When Mexico scored they stopped generating plays to attack more instead they choose to defend the 1-0 score.
Herrera said “it was the man with the whistle that sent Mexico home, “if a referee invents a penalty then you’re out of the World Cup and I hope they take a look at what happen and sent him home”. Though i disagree with that statement. For me it wasn’t the referee it was Herrera who sent Mexico home. Why take out a striker and put in a midfielder? He should have put Raul Jimenez instead of Aquino and also why defend when you can be attacking to increase the lead. Herrera can complain all he wants, but in reality of the game Rafael Marquez made a mistake. He should be experience and cool enough not to stick a leg out in that situation. How many Netherlands cared about Robben exaggerated fall? and If Javier Hernandez would have done the same thing in the other end, would Mexico still complain about the Ref?
