It’s been nearly a week since that historic and yet very humiliating defeat that Brazil had suffered due to the German Blitzkrieg. The Brazilians though will be the ones under the microscope as they seek redemption from their home fans and from that battering in the Semis. We all know that they play with plenty of passion but they will also need to play with intelligence and determination in order to overcome a fierce Dutch side led by captain Robin Van Persie.
Brazil, sadly picked right where the left off in the Semis as the first minutes Robin Van Persie brilliantly slotted in a fine pass to Arjen Robben who blatantly taken down by Thiago Silva around his own area. A penalty and a very controversial yellow card were given in the result of the tackle. The Dutch captain, Robin Van Persie, calmly fired the ball into the back of the net from the spot.
The Brazilian side had to quickly pick themselves up and they did with some menacing crosses that unfortunately only resulted in exciting the home crowd.
The hammer blow came in the 15th minute when a poor defensive clearance from David Luiz fell to the feet of Daley Blind near the spot and he made no mistake and punished the Brazilian defense with an unstoppable shot into the top right corner of the goal.
Later in the match, the referee made another controversial call, as it appeared that Blind had brought down Oscar inside the box but the call was made against Oscar for diving. The call resulted in the first booking for diving in the entire tournament. Blind was also stretched off the pitch; it appears he picked up a knock for the contact with Oscar.
The Dutch were not quite done scoring yet as just seconds into stoppage time they had surely secured the victory and queued the home fans to make an exit. Daryl Janmaat had made the clever overlapping run around Robben who then found Georginio Wijnaldum with the clinical finish.
The final whistle blows and boos can be heard around the stadium. I think we know now what the home crowd feels about the side. The Dutch, deservingly take third and more humiliation piled upon the Brazilians. Final score 3-0.
