When we all thought the San Diego Padres were done dealing, the NL West squad has agreed on a deal with the Atlanta Braves that would send closer Craig Kimbrel and OF Melvin Upton Jr. in exchange for OF Carlos Quentin, OF Cameron Maybin, RHP Matt Wisler, OF Jordan Paroubeck and the 41st pick in the draft.
This is the second big trade Padres GM A.J. Preller has conducted with the Braves. The first being the trade that brought in Melvin Upton’s younger brother Justin Upton.
The centerpiece of the trade, Kimbrel, is considered by many as the top closer going into this season. Kimbrel has led the league is saves since 2011 and has won the Relief Man Award in 2012 and 2014.
