The Boston Red Sox have clinched the American League East Division. Boston has won the division defeating the New York Yankees by a score of 11-6.
How It Happened
The Red Sox took the early lead in the game against their bitter rivals as J.D. Martinez singled for an RBI that gave Boston the early lead. Mookie Betts brough two runs home an inning later with a single of his own and the Yankees were now down by three runs. Luke Voit helped the Yankee cause with a two run homer on the bottom half of the second inning. The score was 3-2. As the game moved along, Giancarlo Stanton went for the fences hitting a grand slam and giving New York the lead 6-4. The Yankees still had hope.
Hope slowly faded away for the Bronx Bombers as the Red Sox stepped on the gas. Boston won the game scoring seven runs trough five innings as the Yankees’ offense fell short. After nine innings of play, the Boston Red Sox had conquered their division.
Moving On
The Red Sox are moving on into the postseason. winning their third consecutive divisional title for the first time in franchise history. They are now 104-49 for the season. Not only do the Red Sox have the best record in baseball. They are also the only team with 100+ wins under their belt.
With a handful of games still to be played in the season, Boston will now await for their upcoming rivals for the first round of the postseason. The Red Sox could face the New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics or the Tampa Bay Rays in the diagonal round.
