The Red Sox Have Won The World Series

The Boston Red Sox have defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in the final game of the World Series. The Red Sox are your 2018 MLB champions

Red Sox Attack Early

Clayton Kershaw and David Price met on the mound for game five of the World Series. Kershaw and the Dodgers looked to survive to play another game.

The Red Sox came firing right from the get go. Steve Pearce hit a two run homer after a single by Andrew Benintendi. Boston had a two run  lead very early into the ballgame. Nonetheless, that two run lead would shrink right away. David Freese hit a homer off Price in the bottom of the first to slash the lead in half. The score was 2-1 after a wild first inning of play.

Kershaw retired the Red Sox in order in the top of the second. On offense, Los Angeles left a man on base to end the bottom of the second. The Dodger starter settled on the mound on the third as he retired the side in order once again. Price gave a triple to Freese thank to a fielding error by J.D Martinez. Despite having a man on third the dodgers could not tie the score as Price kept them on check.

Boston Widens The Lead

The game turned into a pitchers’ duel as both starters had no trouble taking care of their opposition the fourth inning. Kershaw retired the Red Sox in order in the fifth. Price did the same in the bottom half. That all changed in the sixth frame.

Mookie Betts hit a solo home run with one out in the top of sixth to widen Boston’s lead. Kershaw got the last to out with no problem. Nonetheless the Red Sox were now up by two as the score was 3-1. Price retired the Dodgers in order in the bottom of the sixth.

It’s A Wrap

The Red Sox opened up the bottom innings with a bang. J.D. Martinez went deep over the fence to put Boston up by three runs. Kershaw also gave up a couple of singles to Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers. Despite his struggles, Los Angeles’ starter avoided further damage in the seventh.

Pedro Baez came in from the bullpen for the Dodgers trying to stop the East Coast offense to give his team a chance. Baez failed on the mound as he gave up another home run to Pearce to put the Red Sox up by four runs. Boston was six outs away from the championship as the score was now 5-1.

Joe Kelly replaced Price in the bottom of the eight after a walk to Chris Taylor. Kelly did his job and left a man stranded on base. Kenley Jansen came in to pitch in the top of the ninth for the Dodgers as they were running out of chances. Jansen left a man on base and kept the score intact. Chris Sale came in from the bullpen to get the final three outs of the season. Sale struck out two to end the game.

Final Score: Red Sox 5- Dodgers 1
