Patrick Corbin Signs With Nationals

The Washington Nationals have signed Patrick Corbin. According to reports, Corbin has signed a six-year deal worth $140 million. He is pending physical.  

A Season In The Making

The 29-year-old spent the first six years of his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks, debuting in 2012. He raised some eyebrows this past season as he had a solid year. The lefty posted a 3.15 ERA and a 1.050 WHIP, pitching in a total of 200 innings and struck out a total of 246 batters. His pitching record was deceiving as he had 11 wins with seven loses during 2018.  

His contract represents the biggest signing of the winter so far. 

Big Shoes To Fill

With Bryce Harper’s  future still uncertain the Nationals have lost the face of their franchise for the moment, thus making Corbin’s future job at D.C. more difficult. He will not only have to take command of a faulty rotation during postseason times but he will also be subject to the pressure of a fanbase that craves a World Series title.  Corbin will join the top of Washington’s pitching staff alongside Stephen Strasburg and Max Scherzer.

The Nationals’ newest acquisition is a gamble given their lack of postseason success. Nonetheless, it is a gamble worth taking as the opportunity was too good to miss
