Pass & Catch: USC Style

Nelson Agholor – USC WR

On Thursday night, it was a game of pass and catch between Cody Kessler and Nelson Agholor. Their performance propelled USC to a 38-30 win over California and moved them to a 7-3 record. They are 6-2 in their conference. They have two games remaining against two current top 20 teams: UCLA (11) and Notre Dame (18). With impressive wins, they are looking at a great bowl offer. They are also holding onto hope that Arizona State could slip and they could grab the Pac-12 South division lead and play in the championship game and steal the Pac-12 title. All of their 3 losses have been close: 6, 4 and 3 points.

However, last night was about Cody and Nelson playing pass and catch. Their show last night was spectacular. They hooked up 16 times for 216 yards and 2 TD’s. They also had a beautiful 78-yard touchdown called back because of a hold. The hold definitely set him free in the beginning, but after the hold; he still ran 75 yards through the defenders. The 16 catches for Agholor was a career high for him. The 216 yards last night also put him on the top of USC wide receiver accomplishments: he is the first WR ever for USC to have back to back 200 yard games. He also broke the 1,000 yard mark for the season with this big game.

Cody finished the night 31 of 42 (73.8%) with 371 yards in the air an 4 TD’s. With this game, he inches closer to the 3,000 mark. He has 2,919 yards and his touchdown to interception ratio is off the charts with 29 and 3.

The Trojans look to be in full stride. They are a team to watch coming down the stretch. When they lost to Boston College in Week 3, most individuals wrote them off. Well, there may be a team or two that might want to keep watching them in their rear view mirror and make sure that they do not get passed.
