NFC East Week 5 Recap

Outlook

After week 5 a clear front runner has emerged in one of footballs most competitive divisions. Philadelphia now seems downright dominant and a force to be reckoned with, not only in the NFC East, but the conference. Now it’s time for the rest of the division to see if they can catch up.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Birds destroyed the Arizona Cardinals as Carson Wentz was once again superb. The 34-7 drubbing was Philadelphia’s best performance of the season. They were able to once again run the ball effectively on offense and pressure the quarterback on the defensive end. Carson Palmer never got anything going and struggled for most of the afternoon.

A Look Ahead

The Eagles now sit at 4-1 a top the NFC East. They have put some much needed breathing room between themselves and the rest of the pack in their division. Next week they take on a tough Carolina who is coming off a big victory of their own. The Eagles will look to show they are the real deal in prime time on Thursday night.

Washington Redskins

The Redskins were on the bye this week and as a result of a loss by Dallas are still firmly in second place in the division. They will look to have tight end Jordan Reed back healthy after an extra week’s rest.

A Look Ahead

Washington will look to regroup and get back to their winning ways when they face a still winless 49ers team at home. The Skins should have a rather easy outing against a Niners team struggling to move the ball. Look for them to bounce back as they will likely be favorites.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys continued their defensive struggles, surrendering another 35 points in yet another home loss. This week it was Aaron Rodgers who torched the Dallas secondary for 3 TD the last of which came with just 11 seconds to play. The Cowboys are losing ground fast in the NFC East, and need to fix things before its too late.

A Look Ahead

Next week the Cowboys will be on the bye. A week off may be just what Dallas needs to refocus. They need to get back to winning before their hopes of repeating as division champs are dashed for good.

New York Giants

The G-Men lost their fifth consecutive game, this time to the previously winless Chargers 22-27. To add insult to injury they also lost 4 wide outs to injuries, including Odell Beckham Jr. who broke his leg late in the game. How ironic that a team with so much promise at the beginning of the season could be firing their coach and GM by seasons end. Eli Manning did his best with a depleted receiving core, but another late defensive meltdown cost them a the win.

A Look Ahead

Things won’t get any easier for New York next week as they take on a 3-1 Denver team with great defense. As it stands they are a big underdog and deservedly so.
