NFC East Week 3 Recap

Outlook

The first two weeks of the 2017 season provided more questions than answers when it came to who should be the favorite in the NFC East division. 3 out of 4 teams stood at 1-1 before kickoff Sunday and there was not and overtly impressive thing to mention about any of them. As the afternoon unfolded fans hope to get a clearer picture of this three headed race, but would they?

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles won a rollercoaster ride of a game against the New York Giants. After surrendering a 14-0 lead it took a 61 yard Jake Elliot field goal as time expired for Philadelphia to finally put away their division rival. The much malign Eagles run game got on track in a big way managing to gobble up 193 yards between the trio of Blount, Smallwood, and Clement. Two of the three would score touchdowns and be big factors in the Birds game tying drive. The Eagles now sit a top the NFC East with two division wins for the second week in a row. Philadelphia hopes to continue their winning ways next weekend, when they take on a Chargers team still yet to see their first victory.

Washington Redskins

The Redskins pulled off a week 3 upset of the highly touted Las Vegas Raiders. Kirk Cousins was impressive, passing for 365 yards and 3 scores with no interceptions. Furthermore, Chris Thompson was also a big factor as he was able to accumulate 150 yards recieving and a touchdown. With the win the Skins were able to keep pace with the Philadelphia Eagles atop the division.  Washington has a major test on the horizon as they take on what many consider to be the league’s best team, the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are undefeated and sure to be favored.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys got back on track this week with a much needed win over the Arizona Cardinals. Despite a Herculean effort by Larry Fitzgerald who happened to snag 13 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown, a balanced Cowboys offense marked by big plays by Dez Bryant and Ezekiel Elliot and timely defense was able give the road team the victory. With the win Dallas goes to 2-1 and grabs a share of 1st place in the NFC East. The Cowboys are set to take on one of the league’s most surprising teams, the LA Rams. The Rams defense should give Dallas all they can handle.

New York Giants

The G-Men lost a heartbreaker on the road in the Philadelphia 24-27, and in doing so may have ended their 2017 campaign before it even really got started. Falling into an 0-3 hole is virtually a death sentence for any team. It is even more deflating when the team was thought to be a contender for the division crown. The usually stout Giants defense was gashed for 193 yards on the ground and in the end it cost them. However next week the Giants will look to secure their first win of the season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. One more loss could permanently derail New York’s playoff hopes.
