The Baltimore Orioles have acquired outfielder Gerardo Parra from the Milwaukee Brewers for AAA pitcher Zach Davies. Parra was signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2004 and made his Major League debut in 2009. He is a 2-time Gold Glove winner that can play all 3 outfield spots.

Parra has been one of the hottest outfielders lately. He leads the Major Leagues in July with a .435 batting average and he is currently on a 14-game hitting streak. Overall, he is hitting .328 with 24 doubles and an .886 OPS. He has thrived as the Brewers’ leadoff hitter, batting .384 and scoring 27 runs in 31 games as the leadoff man.

Parra will join Chris Davis and Adam Jones in the Orioles’ outfield. The Orioles are in the middle of the pack in the American League in most offensive categories and they are last in doubles. The top of the Orioles lineup would be formidable with Manny Machado and Parra getting on base and Jones and Davis driving them in.

The Orioles are in second place in the American League East, 6 games behind the New York Yankees. They are also just 2 games out of the second Wild Card spot. They are hoping that the addition of Parra will help put them over the edge. They made it to the 2014 American League Championship Series last season, but they were swept by the Kansas City Royals.

Parra will be a free agent at the end of the season.

All MLB trades are pending medical evaluations.
