Manchester United visited Anfield to take on Liverpool and was the match all the Premier League fans were waiting for. After Manchester City and Arsenal’s victory, the red devils had no other option but to get three points if they wanted to continue to be behind them. Liverpool was looking to collect three points and end up one point above Manchester United.
After playing his second straight game as a starter Juan Mata was inspired more than ever, and scored his first goal with a clinical finish off a perfect through ball by Ander Herrera in the 13th minute.
Minute 34th Liverpool had a perfect opportunity to get even after Daniel Sturridge set up Adam Lallana outside the eighteen but his shot was barely wide.
First half ended with a massive response from both teams, Liverpool made a substitution at the half and brought in Stevan Gerrard. Steven Gerrard was sent off, forty seconds into the second half after a frustrating act. Gerrard stepped on Ander Herrera and left Liverpool with ten.
Just fifteen minutes into the second half, Juan Mata scored his second goal of the game. Mata created a wall pass with Angel Di Maria, Di Maria returned a pass on the air and Mata had a phenomenal volley and beat Simon Mignolet.
Liverpool had to react quickly and in minute 69″ Daniel Sturridge scored on an assist by Philippe Coutinho. Sturridge beat David De Gea to the first post, and made him look like an amateur.
Minute 90″ in regulation time, Daley Blind was brought down inside the box. Wayne Rooney took the penalty, but Mignolet dove to his right and made the save.

With Juan Mata’s performance, perhaps Louis Van Gaal might want to adjust his squad and make room for Juan Mata. With this massive victory, Manchester United continues to be one point behind Arsenal and two points behind Manchester City. The Red Devils after FIFA’s international break will take on Aston Villa at Old Trafford as for Liverpool will have another tough game at the Emirates.
