The Dutch midfielder is interested in working club level with his Netherlands manager, Louis Van Gaal. A Goal report says that the Vice Chairman, Ed Woodward is working behind the scenes to complete this deal. De Jong is greatly remembered for his dangerous “kun fu kick” on Xabi Alonso during the 2010 FIFA World Cup final. He actually spent three year’s playing for Manchester City before joining Milan in 2012.
He has made 60 appearances in the San Siro ever since he transferred, but they have been in a downfall finishing 8th in the 2013/14 season. Van Gaal’s interest in the defensive midfielder showed during the 2014 FIFA World Cup after he signaled him out after the 3-2 Dutch victory over Australia. In an interview Van Gaal said, “I don’t like signaling players out but Nigel de Jong was inspirational.”
Van Gaal has already brought in Ander Herrera whom already has greatly improved the red devil’s midfield so far in the preseason. With Ryan Giggs retired and Michael Carrick out due to an injury, an 8 million euro purchase of an international experienced midfielder is a bargain.
With reports flying in about Manchester United closing in on Arturo Vidal, de Jong seems more of what Manchester United needs for their lack of midfield depth with Vidal recently picking up an injury. There are also rumors that Shinji Kagawa is heading towards the exit door alongside Javier Hernandez with Atletico showing great interest in the pair. An 8 million euro purchase of Nigel de Jong and the rummored exit of Kagawa and Hernandez, it seems Van Gaal can reinforce Manchester United with both Nigel de Jong and Arturo Vidal. Should Van Gall make more signings?
