Lazio have slowly climbed up the table and having not lost in their last eight matches, are now nipping at the heels of Roma for a secured spot in the Champions League. Cagliari on the other hand are not looking so well as they remain in the relegation zone.
Lazio opened up their account on the 31st minute with an intelligent assist from Stefano Mauri who turned very well just in-front of the goal to find Miroslav Klose on the back post who then tapped it in. Klose, 36 years old, has ten goals and six assists this season in all competitions for Lazio. What a player!
On the 50th minute, Marco Sau’s shot was deflected off the defender and bounced up-and-over keeper, Fredirico Marchetti. The score was now tied at 1 apiece.
After the break at the 60th minute, Lazio were awarded a penalty as Blade Keita was brought down from a lazy tackle by Lorenzo Cristeig. Lucas Biglia stepped up to the spot and sent the keeper the wrong way to regain Lazio’s lead.
Eight minutes later, Lazio were awarded another penalty as Modibo Diakate was sent off for tripping up Keita. Biglia stepped up again, but his effort was sent flying over the crossbar.
Minutes after Antonio Balzano’s terrific goal-line save, Marco Parolo scored an even more terrific free-kick from about 30 yards, driving it low to the near bottom corner. This would give Lazio the 3-1 lead and eventual victory.
Lazio are now six points clear of Fiorentina and will hope to find their way into the Champions League for next season. At this form, it seems very possible that they will succeed in this task and could even arise as contenders in the Champions League.
