Jordan Spieth is on the verge of winning a second John Deere Classic in three years. He leads the tournament through three rounds, finishing Saturday afternoon in dramatic fashion following a nearly three-hour rain delay.
The 21-year-old shot a career-best 61 (-10) at TPC Deere run, rising him up to the top of the leaderboard. Spieth scored a combined four under par on the final three holes with a birdie-eagle-birdie finish to a bogey-free round of golf.
Following some criticism for choosing to play in the tournament one week before the Open Championship at St. Andrews, the 2015 Masters and US Open-champion found trouble on the 17th hole endangering his shot at completing his best round ever. After getting through the trees, he stuck his third shot beyond the flag, but the sand-wedge’s backspin was enough to find the bottom of the cup for an eagle. He would birdie the final hole to seal yet another career achievement.

Spieth now leads the John Deere Classic by two-strokes on Danny Lee, who won last week’s Greenbrier Classic. The New Zealander is looking to become the first PGA professional since David Duval in 1997 to earn his first two Tour wins in back-to-back appearances. He shot nine under par on Saturday that included nine birdies and zero bogeys.
Danny Lee and Jordan Spieth will make up the final pairing for the 2015 John Deere Classic on Sunday afternoon.
