Green Bay Packers Release A.J. Hawk

The Green Bay Packers have released LB A.J. Hawk. He is the Packers’ all-time leader in tackles, tallying 1,118. He also went on to lead the team in tackles for five seasons.

“I spent nine great years in Green Bay. I had awesome teammates and coaches and a great medical staff and equipment staff. Many of them have become my closest friends. We won a ton of games, as well as a Super Bowl, and I loved everything about playing for one of the greatest franchises in all of sports,” Hawk said. “The fans in Green Bay are incredible. Between playing at Lambeau Field as well as seeing them on the road, they always supported us. I am looking forward to my next opportunity in the NFL, but I’ll always cherish my years as a Green Bay Packer.”

Hawk is currently recovering from surgery, where he had bone spurs removed from his ankle after the Packers’ loss in the NFC Championship against the Seattle Seahawks. The 31 year-old linebacker was due to make $3.5 million in 2015.

2014 proved to be Hawk’s worst season. He recorded career worsts in both sacks (0.5) and tackles (54). Hawk will now become a free agent.
