Way back on the September 11th episode of UFC: Download, bossman Dana White had this to say regarding a GSP return:
“It would be tough to deny that GSP comes right back and doesn’t fight for the title, you know what I mean?” White told UFC.com in his weekly interview. “GSP can do whatever he wants. If he wants to come back and fight for the title, or if he wants a fight before that – he can do whatever he wants.”
That same week GSPs coach Firaz Zahabi had the following to add, in regard to the injury that forced the champ to take a hiatus:
[via ESPN] “It’s looking way better than the first time,” Zahabi said. “We just finished training and were talking about how his quadriceps got back to size so much faster this time around. No two ACL injuries are the same. We’re learning that.
“In October, he’s going to try really light martial arts training. Maybe hit pads. A little movement. Nothing crazy. “
However, today on The MMA Hour, Zahabi seemed a little less than sure about his fighter’s future:
“He has no plans right now,” Zahabi said. “We’re supposed to start some martial arts training by the end of this month, and we’re going to take it from there, step-by-step. Everybody wants to know what his decision is going to be. The guy hasn’t rolled on the mat yet. I mean, how can he know?
“I don’t think he could really know, and there’s no reason for him to rush back with a decision. He has no definite plans whatsoever, that’s the bottom line. That’s not the answer everybody wants to hear, but it’s the truth. No matter what anybody tells you, he still has not made up his mind.”
So until we hear from the man himself, we’re only left to speculate.
