Mikey Garcia has been rising in status very quickly. Some have even started considering him as a pound for pound fighter now. He is young, has a perfect record and is smart in the ring. He has all the characteristics to become one of the greatest fighters of his division if he isn’t it already. Recently it seems like Garcia is starting to get mentioned to go up against big fighters. His next possible opponent is most likely going to be Yuriokis Gambo. Many people seem to want this fight to happen, but what will be his next option after this fight?
Manny Pacquiao seems to be very interested to fight Garcia, or the winner of Garcia vs Gamboa. Would Mikey Garcia be a good enough fight if Pac Man were to beat Timothy Bradley in his up coming fight or would the Garcia fight be a better come back, in case of another loss to the Palm Springs native? Many questions still remain like, what weight division would Pac Man and Garcia fight in? Garcia at the moment is a Super Featherweight boxer, while Pacquiao is a Welterweight. Would the fight then be at a catch weight? If so, Garcia would have to go up at least ten pounds in weight, but could all that extra weight affect the young Mexican-American? Although this fight might open many doors for Garcia, is it really worth throwing his perfect record away?
This isn’t the first time Pacquiao has picked a boxer from a lower division to face off with. In Macua, China he fought with former WBA Lightweight Champion, Brandon Rios. Rios looked slow, got out punched, and looked like he had no desire to hurt the Filipino Congressman. This could be a way for Pacquiao to bust his ego and to look good after suffering two horrible losses. Is Mikey Garcia just another opponent to help Pacquiao show off? Or does Pacquiao honestly believe that Garcia is ready to fight amongst big name contenders?
