Fiorentina proved that they could compete for a spot in European play with a stunning win over AC Milan.
Milan would strike first in the 55th minute. Giacomo Bonaventura’s shot of a deflection was not hit well, but was put in the path of Mattia Destro who redirected the shot into the net.
Fiorentina would get their equalizer late in the 83rd minute. Joaquin Rodriguez’s cross was met high above by Gonzalo Rodriguez to smash it home.
With momentum at their back, they were able to find the winner in the 89th minute. Manuel Pasqual’s cross took a great leap and was almost set up perfectly for Joaquin to hit the header right into the top right corner, making it 2-1. Milan would have been lucky to take home one point, but Fiorentina fought and deserved all three.
Milan are still in dark times and manager Filippo Inzaghi will be under fire from the front office for his recent performances which include just one win in their last five matches.
Fiorentina could use some confidence back after their 0-4 smashing from Lazio. They will need to be careful to keep their position as they could easily be knocked out of the top five by Sampdoria.
