The Los Angeles Dodgers are MLB’s very best. Their 77-40 record is virtually unreachable as the second place D-Backs are 18 games away. It’s easy to spot big names in their studded roster. Clayton Kershaw, Max Muncy and NL MVP contender Cody Bellinger are usual names in Los Angeles. It is to be expected for guys like them to make a great deal of noise. After all, they’re good and they play for one of the biggest teams in all of baseball. However, there is a set of Dodger rookies making a high impact while keeping a low profile.
Alex Verdugo
Verdugo is the most well-known face on the list. The Tucson native made sporadic appearances in the outfield in 2017 and 2018. He has stayed with the team for 2019 and there’s a good reason for that. He’s a few hits shy of a .300 average as he is hitting .294 with 44 RBI and 12 homers. No wonder this 23-year-old is making a push for the NL Rookie Of The Year.
Will Smith
Smith has looked like a freak of nature for Los Angeles. The Louisville native needed no time to adjust to Major League Baseball. In just 20 games, the 24-year-old has racked up a total of 19 hits. His offensive production is as good as it is constant as he has 19 RBI and 6 home runs to his name. As a catcher, he has 8 assists in 17 games behind the plate.
Dustin May
The man known as Gyngergaard has risen to the occasion as well. May has a 3.18 ERA and has struck out 10 batters in 11 1/3 innings pitched. He has an 0-1 record over a pair of start at the mound, but that record could improve as the Dodger will square off against a few lesser teams for the rest of the month.
Tony Gonsolin
Gonsolin was put on the mound as a replacement for Hyun-Jin Ryu. The Dodgers sent him back to the minors in Oklahoma as the South Korean pitcher is back in the rotation. Gonsolin made the best out of his chances as he recorded his first-ever win in the Majors throwing 6 innings and allowing just a pair of hits in a win against the Cardinals. The 25-year-old would be more than welcome on the pitching staff once again come October.
It’s Working Out For Them
The Dodgers’ ability to bring in good prospects is even more impressive than their record. Particularly in an organization that is not known for having an amazing farm system, they aren’t the Padres, after all, these are the Dodgers and they are somehow making it work with their Dodger rookies.
