Just hours into his first day of practice, the 3rd pick of this year’s NFL Draft is out for the season.
The Jacksonville Jaguars’ first round pick Dante Fowler suffered a torn left ACL in the first rookie minicamp. The talented pass rusher out of Florida was expected to make a huge impact in the Jaguars’ defense. “Brutal,” general manager David Caldwell said of the situation.
Fowler was paired up against offensive lineman Watts Dantzler in 11-on-11 drills when his knee buckled. He then fell to the floor and grabbed his knee. He was later carted off the field.
“I didn’t really see what happened on the field. It happened kind of off to my side,” head coach Gus Bradley said before news broke out that Fowler had torn his ACL.
Fowler was already considered as a top candidate as Defensive Rookie of the Year. The Jaguars, who finished 6th in sacks last season with 45, expected the newly added pass rusher to create a bigger edge on the young defense.
