America, Chivas, Cruz Azul and Pumas are the top four big teams in Mexico, so we can easily see them in the top 8 qualifying zone right? Well, that’s a big no! America is the leader of the position board in La Liga MX with 16 points in their favor, while Chivas and Cruz Azul both have 9 and down at the bottom is Pumas with 7 points.
Chivas and Pumas seem to have woken up from their nightmare that they were in, while Cruz Azul just keeps digging its own grave. It all started on May 1. 2014, where Cruz Azul being the leader of the Liga MX would face Club Leon in the Quarter-Final. First game was a draw with the score being 1-1, Cruz Azul looked good on the pitch, demonstrating why they were on the top while Club Leon just defended itself and counter attacked when Cruz Azul made mistakes. On May 3, 2014, the second game, Club Leon again gave Cruz Azul a hard battle eliminating them from the playoffs with an aggregate score of 3-3.
Since then, we haven’t seen the aggression that Cruz Azul has had in the past. All we see is some players that just play because they are told to do it or they won’t get paid. It feels like the players aren’t feeling the colors of the shirt nor the love. Winning 2 games out of 8 is unacceptable, Cruz Azul should be in the top 8 qualifying zone. As a fan I see the team being poorly managed and coach Luis Fernando Tena is not being strict with them. It’s a joke what Cruz Azul is becoming, winning a game because the other team’s player made an own goal is something they shouldn’t be proud of.
If this continues to happen then I don’t see Cruz Azul in the qualifying zone nor them competing in the Concacaf Champions League. Cruz Azul needs to wake up and realize that something is not right. The last team they played against was Toluca, a game they lost 2-1. Surprisingly enough, I thought Toluca would score some more. Cruz Azul needs a wake up call and they need it fast.
Cruz Azul hired Mariano Pavone to be a top star in Cruz Azul, but so far he has failed. In this tournament he hasn’t scored a single goal, situation that has all of the fans mad. He’s the worse striker that Cruz Azul has hired only scoring 30 goals out of 75 games he has played in 5 seasons with the team. It’s not all bad for Mariano Pavone because he’s not the only one. Mauro Formica is a great player we all saw that last season, but for some reason this season he hasn’t demonstrated what he’s capable of doing one thing for sure he has more goals this season that Mariano Pavone.
I see this team going down hill and upper management hasn’t done nothing to fix the situation. Cruz Azul has 3 tournaments this year. They have La Liga Mx, Concacaf Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup. If things continue to go like this then there’s no way that Cruz Azul can compete in a 3 tournaments. I honestly think that Luis Fernardo Tena should be fired and they should bring a strict coach who wouldn’t hold back and that would give a chance to the young stars that Cruz Azul has. Cruz Azul let go of great players in the past even players that we fans liked like Achille Emana, Allam Bello, Sergio Napoles and Jose Villarreal. If these players were given more opportunity I would bet that Cruz Azul would have been in the qualifying zone and not at the bottom of the standings.
