Chelsea saw Manchester City, Arsenal, and Manchester United collect three points over the weekend and they wanted to do the same. Chelsea would need some points to hold on to their comfortable leading gap. Hull City, who are sitting at the bottom of the league table, were only three points away from the relegation zone and they had the current league leaders ahead of them.
Chelsea were up two nil within the first ten minutes of the game. The first goal came from a superb shot by Eden Hazard. The first goal came from a superb shot by Eden Hazard. Hazard was outside the 18 yard box and took a left footed chance that beat Hull City goalkeeper, Allan McGregor, at his left side.
The second goal was a magnificent finish by Diego Costa inside the box. Costa placed a shot that curled from the left edge of the 6 yard box to the far right post, with the inside of his right foot. After this finish the Blues sat with a comfortable lead.
Things quickly began to change at minute 26″ when Andrew Robertson shamed Branislav Ivanovic on the left side of the pitch and put in a dangerous cross that was well met and finished with class by Ahmed Elmohamady.
Hull’s second goal came from a huge mistake made by the Chelsea defense. Ivanovic passed the ball back to Courtois, who tried to be a little too fancy under pressure. Courtois cut towards the inside of his box but put too much power on the ball and just handed it over to Abel Hernandez. Hernandez had no trouble tapping the ball in to equalize the match.
Chelsea continue to slightly dominate the game. Both teams in the second half had opportunities to take the lead and Courtois had three consecutive saves in one play to deny Hull City a third goal.
Fifteen minutes before the game ended Chelsea found their third goal and claimed the three very valuable points at steak. Loic Remy stepped onto the pitch to replace Diego Costa and within two minutes of stepping on, in a very nice triangular play, he shot from close range. Allan McGregor was able to put his body in the way but failed to keep the ball out.
Chelsea continue to lead the Premier League with 67 points, six points above Manchester City, seven above Arsenal, and eight above Manchester United. Chelsea also has the advantage of being one game behind. In their next match, Chelsea will receive Stoke City at Stanford Bridge and have the opportunity to extend their lead.
