Chelsea Comes Back With a Controversial Victory

Chelsea came back from a 1-0 deficit against Liverpool to win at Anfield. With two controversial goals, Chelsea still remain as leaders in the Premier League with 29 points.

The German center mid Emre Can put the Reds in the lead in the 9th minute, after being given so much space  to take a shot. He took a shot about 25 yards, that was deflected by Gary Cahill. A few minutes earlier, he had taken a similar shot that ended up as a corner kick, but that time it was deflected by captain John Terry. The game was very intense, with Liverpool dominating in ball possession.

Five minutes later, Cahill scored for the Blues to tie up the game. It was a corner kick taken by Spaniard Cesc Fabregas to the second post and it was re-centered by Diego Costa to Terry. Terry made contact with the ball and Liverpool’s keeper Simon Mignolet saved it and left the ball to Gary Cahill, who controlled with his thigh and a little help of his hand to make contact with his right foot and tied up the game.

Minute 67, Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta got a ball that seemed to be out in the wing and made an impressive move on Philippe Coutinho and beat him down the line and put the ball across. Oscar ran too early and the ball went past him. Diego Costa was at the right place at the right time, controlled and put the ball in. It was now 2-1, Chelsea in the lead.

The game got intense in the last few minutes with Liverpool creating opportunities. Ten minutes before the game was over, manager Brendan Rogers decided to take out the Italian striker Mario Balotelli who had an unlucky game. Balotelli had a few runs throughout the game that looked dangerous, but he was caught offside on many occasions. A few minutes before the game would come to an end, Steven Gerrard took a shot with his left foot that hit Gary Cahill between the hand and the shoulder. Liverpool players demanded a penalty kick, but nothing was given.

Liverpool continues to suffer without Luis Suarez and it seems like it is going to take Balotelli more time to adapt to the Premier League.

This victory keeps Chelsea points ahead of Southampton for first place. Can this be the start of rumors to say that Chelsea might have an unbeaten season, just like “the Invincibles” back in 2003-04?

After this defeat, Liverpool places in the 11th position with 14 points, tied with Everton and Tottenham. They will play Crystal Palace away next, while Chelsea will face West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge.
